The Egyptian Fayoumi has been raised along the Nile River for centuries — a small, fierce, independent bird with legendary resistance to bacterial and viral diseases including Marek's, Newcastle, and Salmonella, studied by Iowa State University since the 1940s for traits no commercial breed can match. MKH crosses Fayoumi males over Exchequer Leghorn females: the result is a medium-bodied, heat-adapted pastured bird with the laying capacity of a heritage Leghorn and the disease resistance of an ancient Egyptian breed.
